Mack Trucks Quarry

Heavy machinery and a seafood buffet...in a quarry?

A working quarry at the base of Crookneck in the Glasshouse Mountains provided a fresh set of challenges as the venue setting for Mack Truck’s new breed launch. Having just completed their national sales conference on the Sunshine Coast, 200 guests were transported by coach to the quarry where they were treated to an event with a difference.

Alighting from the coaches, guests were welcomed by two eight foot tall Mack bulldog statues standing like sentries on either side of the red carpet entrance. Laid out before all was an amazing setup of banquet tables, bars and buffets. A large performance stage was also erected on the site and the whole area was framed by a 93 metre wide quarry wall awash with ever changing colour.

The brief from Mack was to create a conference dinner with a difference. A dinner that was unique and something that the sales team would talk about for a long time to come—and that is exactly what a Noble Event achieved. The logistics of working in an operational quarry saw aNE conducting site surveys with the client and site manager, and coordinating production, crew, and catering in a venue where there was no infrastructure available at all.

Working closely with quarry management was an important element with this event as strict OHS guidelines had to be observed at all times for successful event integration. With the new breed of trucks in place around the perimeter and with the help of some heavy haulage machinery, an intimate and stylish dining setting was created in an otherwise vast space.

The last thing to do was finish the table setting with a bespoke table centrepiece created especially for Mack. Clever engineering saw individual Mack bulldogs placed on top of diesel pistons and conrods that were machined and powder coated and then bolted to a circular black metal base. To round off the evening, guests were treated as Jon Stevens and his band provided a generous dose of rockstar entertainment flavour belting out all his past and present hits.
